Rice Cereal and Bedtime:

Once again pics for the grandparents and other adoring Caleb fans :)

Caleb started on his rice cereal this week. The first couple times, he just spit most of it out while cooing and smiling really big. I am looking at these pictures, and I realized that he doesn't even have a bib on! They must have been taken right when we started feeding him for the first time, because now a bib and a burp rag are a necessity! I don't really know what I was thinking before....By today, day 5 of "solids", Caleb is doing remarkably well. I had started to think we were just starting too early and that his tongue reflex was just too strong. But, he seems to have learned how to suck the cereal off of the spoon, and therefore he swallows it. I think it helps that Jon has been mixing it up with milk rather than water.
Overall he gets an B+, and the best thing is he slept for 10 hours last night!
Just a quick picture of Caleb in his cute dalmation jammies

Caleb doesn't watch much TV, but we'd be crazy to say that when it was on he didn't watch it. I have been letting him watch, le Tour de France and he seems to get a kick out of it. Probably just lots of colors whizzing by on the screen but I figure it's educational. You've got geography (maps of France), accelerated language skills ( just try to pronounce the names of all the riders in the Tour), science (what the bikes are made of is amazing as well as the physiology that makes them go), and the math to figure out who's really in the lead after every stage. We don't have a clear favorite this year and that is making it even more fun, maybe we can get an American a stage win. Go Team Discovery!!

4 Months Old and the Results are in...

Caleb is officially four months old today. We went to the doctor for his weigh in and shots. When he had his two month appointment, I didn't go because I was finishing out the school year, so I was a little nervous about the shots this time around. Of course after all of what Caleb had going in and out of him in the NICU, four little shots didn't seem like as big of a deal. He cried pretty well during the shots, but the nurse was super fast. Jon held him down, and I just stood back and sort of averted my eyes. Afterwards I was the comforter and Caleb was looking at me with his boo face (Leslie/ Eric Capron phrase) saying what was that all about?

Here are the results from Caleb's Measurements:
Height: 25 1/2 inches (95 percentile*)

Weight: Just almost 14 lbs (75 percentile*)

Head Circumferance: 40 1/2 cm (25 percentile*)

*All percentiles are adjusted one month for Caleb being premature.

So basically Caleb has a big body and a little head! I never noticed that looking at him, but it sort of seems like it based on his measurements. Either way all of his parts are growing fine. He had grown 3 inches in two months. The doctor gave us the go ahead to start on rice cereal, so be watching for some pictures of his first time eating solids!

As I type Caleb is now happy as can be asleep in his carseat. He is learning fast that "Even with all the challenges, life is good." :)

"AND I AM NOT EVEN PREGNANT"

We had a nice weekend. Yesterday Jon, Caleb, and I drove to Lake Whitney to eat dinner with some of Caleb's family from Wichita Falls. We enjoyed seeing family, and they were so sweet to bring us some fun baby gifts for Caleb. Anyways before we left to go visit them, I decided that I needed to iron the shirt that I was going to wear. Now many of you long time blog friends remember a certain post involving me, and ironing, and lemon pledge. See link if you missed out on that story. I attribute that incident entirely to my pregnancy and the condition that many of you moms/moms-to-be have experienced that my friend Tricia calls "dumb pregnant". So ever since then I have taken my time when I get out the starch to make sure I have the correct solution for my ironing needs. Yesterday was just the same. I got out the ironing board, set it up, pulled out the starch, and pulled out the "iron". I plugged the "iron" in and went to turn it on. Then I realized that I was about to iron with the hand vacuum cleaner! I did notice before I turned the vacuum on at least (although the story would be funnier if I had actually tried to somehow iron with it). So I am pretty much for sure that I am NOT pregnant, and that just leaves the condition "dumb pregnant" to be "dumb". I can't even say it is from lack of sleep since Caleb slept 9 hours last night!

Here are a few pics for the g-parents....

Caleb's Sunday night walk

Caleb's Sunday afternoon nap: Believe it or not, his face wasn't even marked up after ??? minutes in this position.

Here is a picture of a few of my friends that we took after Bible study last night. We decided that we needed one more picture of Brooke before she is induced tomorrow morning! From left to right are: EJ (pregnant), Brooke (pregnant), Jennifer (pregnant), and Tiffany (pregnant). Do you see a common theme among my friends?

Caleb just loves to suck on anything and everything. In the above pictures he can't get enough of his pacifier, which we affectionately call Mr. Greenie, his giraffe, and his thumb. He is just as cute as can be as his personality is starting to develop. Last night he was in the nursery at church while I was at Bible study. He was acting a little hungry and upset, so my friend Keren, who was working childcare, brought him upstairs to me. As soon as he saw me, he grinned really big and cooed. I love being a mom! At nighttime, Caleb often coos himself to sleep. His language is changing and growing everyday. Listening to him coo in his crib or his chair is just so entertaining! We are having a blast!

What do you think? Similarities?
MY RECENT ADVENTURES:
Three generations! All of us are talkers!
Mommy gets one last fix of green chile at the ABQ airport on the way home. I've spent a lot of my lifetime in airports with two trips to ABQ, one to Sac-town, and an upcoming trip to Seattle. I am always a good boy- even when one of our flights was delayed 6 hours!
I feel good!

What are you doing mommy? I am falling over!
