New look...

It is about time for a new look. I figure I will get some pink in here before baby boy number two joins the family. Sorry Caleb about the pink surrounding your picture in the header!

If you haven't played with blogger's design elements lately, take a look at them. There is a whole lot more options than last time I looked at it!

Happy Valentine's Day month everyone! Isn't pink and this gray/brown delightful together!?

Caleb at 2 months shy of 4.

Caleb will be four in two short months! I can't believe that he only has 1 1/2 more years left before he will start kindergarten! He is growing up so fast! Here is what he is up to these days:
*He is super excited about having a little brother. He is insistent that the baby's name will be "Cubluke", so much so that the name sounds perfectly normal to me now.
*He still loves his cars and trains. He got quite a few new ones for Christmas and couldn't wait to come home to play with them all. He finds great joy in sets of things.
* He is working on learning to be a better sharer of his toys. This continues to be a challenge for all of us! It will be interesting to see how he does with sharing a room with Luke. He tells me that he is very excited about it.
* Caleb knows all of his letters and sounds, and we are going to start the process of teaching him to read this year. I plan on putting him in preschool several days a week in the fall.
* Caleb is a very aware child. Yesterday, he went with me to my ultrasound, and in middle of it, he wanted to check with me to make sure that I had brought my purse into the room. He had been concerned that I left it in the lobby. Silly boy!
* Caleb enjoys riding his bike with training wheels and his scoot bike. He rides them around the neighborhood while I push the stroller and control Heidi dog.
* While he likes playing with friends, Caleb seems the happiest when he can stay home and play. He is still a fairly calm child, who likes to be close to home and close to mom and dad.

Abby at 23 months

Life has been crazy, and I haven't found the time to give an update on my kiddos... not that anyone out there has been anxiously waiting for one. But, this blog is certainly a scrapbook/ memory book of sorts, and I just have to record this for me! I am sure that Abby will get another update in a month when she turns two!

Here are some things that Abby is up to:
*She loves to repeat whatever Caleb is saying or doing. This is often going on in the backseat of the car. He hands me his cup, and she hands me hers. He yells out "go" or "hi", and she repeats it. It is so cute.
*Abby is starting to talk a lot. She loves to go around naming everything in site. She also is using different phrases like "I see you" and "here you go". This is such a fun age with the constant addition of new words!
*Abby pretends to be shy around people (even those whom she knows). I think that it is more a type of coyness. She loves my brother Mike and his wife Tiffany, and acts especially flirty around them. We got to spend a lot of time with them while we were in Albuquerque. Every time they would come over, she would squeal with delight and then precede to completely ignore them. She calls both Mike and Tiffany "Mike" and loves to identify them in pictures: "Mike" (pointing at Tiffany) and "Mike" (pointing at Mike). She really loves Uncle Mike and Aunt "Mike".
*Abby is a good sleeper and seems to really appreciate being put into her bed at naptime.
* Abby loves to cuddle and wrestle. With both Caleb and Abby, I have often held them in my lap and asked if they want kisses or tickles. Caleb's response has always been kisses, and Abby's response is always tickles. She has started saying "tickles" aloud in the cutest voice, and she just yells in laughter when I tickle her. It is so funny to me to see the difference between the two of them!
* Abby does everything on her own terms including eating. She would love to get up and eat sunflower seeds and peanuts for breakfast everyday. We have several bad habits that we are going to work on breaking after being away from home for a month. Abby usually just picks at whatever breakfast food that I give her, but then at dinnertime she starts laughing and squealing as I put her in her highchair. I think that she ends up being really hungry by then.
*Abby loves to nurture her dolls, stuffed animals, and her cousin Kennedy. She also loves to go through my bathroom drawers and through my shoes. She is definitely a little girl!

Something that made Caleb very happy...!

Happy Birthday Grammy!

Today is my mom's birthday. She would have been 56 years old. Here is a picture that I think that she would enjoy. Growing up mom would always let us scrape the batter from the bowl. I remember seeing pictures of myself eating the cake batter from my first birthday cake. Salmonella aside, I still love to lick the bowl. In several recent visits, mom had Caleb and Abby help her make brownies and blueberry muffins, and of course they got to eat the leftover batter. Here they are continuing the tradition at our house.
