Capron Water Day 2013

Yesterday Caleb informed me that today we were going to have a family water day.  He spoke of it in very formal and organized terms.  He was to be in charge, and we would spend 30 minutes doing each event.  The events would include pool time, sprinkler time, crazy daisy time, and slip-n-slide time.  I also added in wash the car time and eat lunch time.  Caleb told each of us (Abby, Luke, and me) that we had to go into the locker room (i.e. the bathroom), hide behind the shower curtain, and put on our bathing suits.  All complied except for me because I used my own personal locker room (i.e. my own bathroom) to get dressed in.

Next, we got our plate of fruit and veggies ready, got sunscreened-up, and were ready to play.  Caleb announced the start of the first activity by saying "go".  He was super excited!  Up first was pool time and crazy daisy (not pictured) time.

Then there was snack time and towel sunshine time.

Then we tried out the slip-n-slide...

Caleb was not happy when we realized that our yard is way to bumpy and flat for the slip-n-slide to be much fun.

He really felt that Capron Family Water Day was ruined and told me all about it.  I encouraged him to just enjoy the warm water spraying out of the end, and he seemed to recover from his disappointment!

Last of all we had an unplanned basketball game that ended with Abby being the Baylor cheerleader, Luke being the UT player who never scored, and Caleb being the Baylor MVP.  Me?  I was the photographer of course!  Somehow most of the pictures are of Abby.   She just seems to draw the camera in!

Look at this face!  Abby girl seems to be showing her dramatic girly side more lately.  She was mad that her ball went under a bush!

What a great way to spend the day!  I love seeing Caleb as our little camp director.  It sure does remind me of his daddy!  We have all really enjoyed having Caleb home for the summer!

VBS 2013

We all had a wonderful time at our church's VBS last week.  There were around 1400 kids and adults there throughout the week!  My good friend Jennifer was the photographer.  You can see that the kids loved it!  I taught in one of the third grade classes with my friend Wendi, and I loved it too.  I had forgotten how much easier it is (for me at least) to teach the older kids!  It was a busy week, but it was so rewarding to teach these kids about the love of God!  Our church seriously has an AWESOME kids' ministry, and I can see God working in Caleb, Abby, and Luke's little hearts.  I pray that each of them will grow up and live to know Christ and to make Christ known.

Caleb at 6 years old

Here's an update on our big boy Caleb.  He is six years old and just finished Kindergarten.  This year has flown by.  He continues to be a homebody, but he seemed to enjoy school.  He made friends with different groups of boys in his class and much of his recess playtime seems to have involved running around a whole lot.  Really, he doesn't volunteer much information to me about school, but I try to get it any way that I can!  He is now a great reader, which I am so very proud about!  Yes, I am being that annoying mom bragging about him, but I know all of the time and effort that we have put into reading books with him and working on letters throughout the years.  It is just so rewarding to see it all come together and to see your child really truly reading!  Every night we read a story from a huge collection of original Thomas the Train stories.  We are just almost finished with the huge volume (thank goodness!).  Caleb often looks through and reads these books on his own.  He certainly knows a lot of train vocabulary!  Caleb also still plays with his trains.  This boy just is great at entertaining himself.  Really he always has been.  Also now that he has been home from school, he plays and entertains his sister a lot too.  Hopefully that will last all summer long as it has given me some break time!  Caleb loves to play on the Ipad or computer, so I am trying to make sure to monitor and limit the time spent on those.  Caleb has a strong sense of wanting everything to be done correctly and according to the rules.  He doesn't like any situation where he thinks we may be breaking a rule or convention.  He is a little bit of a worrier... he doesn't like it when I set a bag down and leave it in a corner.  Also he is still quite frightened of certain (tame) movies and media.  With all of these things that are the same about him, he has definitely changed and grown up a whole lot in the last year.  I have certainly felt like a part of me was gone with him being at school all day.  I am super excited to have him home for the summer!
Here are some pictures of Kindergarten Graduation:
