Sweet light, sweet baby

Luke got his third cast today. He was more awake this time and cried while they manipulated his foot and put the cast on. His foot looks great and is much closer to the correct position than it was a week and a half ago when he got his first cast. I love it when I take a picture and the light is just perfect. It is much easier when Jon is around to hold the baby in just the right position versus when I am telling Caleb or Abby to stand in a certain spot. Aren't this light and this baby just beautiful? And the daddy quite handsome?

Luke: One Month Old!

editIMG_0823
Luke is a month old today! It has gone by fast. Here is some of what he is up to at a month old:
-He likes to be held. He will fall asleep in our arms and instantly wake up the second we lay him down.
-When he does sleep, he likes to be in his carseat.
-He can fit into a bunch of his 3-6 month clothing.
-He got his second cast this past Wednesday. He seems to be upset and sore from the casts for about two days after getting a new one. He will be in casts for about 7 more weeks, and then his foot will be completely corrected. However, he will wear a brace all of the time for 3 months and then at night for several years to keep the foot from relapsing.
-He is sleeping for about 5 hours at night, waking up to eat, and then going back down for 3 hours. Two nights ago, he slept for 6 hours... it made me feel so very good!
-He has smiled and cooed at Jon and me several times. So very sweet!
-He has lost a bunch of hair and taken on Jon's hairline. The remaining hair looks like it might be red.
-He is adored by Caleb and Abby. It is so sweet to see them loving on him!
Now here are a few of Luke's precious little baby faces:

Swim Practice

So the other day I took Caleb swimming to reinforce a weeks worth of swim lessons and check on his progress. Turns out he's pretty comfortable in the water and can push off the wall with his head in and everything. Not so much swimming but progress. What I was most proud of happened after we got out. We went to the locker room to change and he had to pee. Proof that he didn't earlier. You may say that's a little victory but I know adults/students that cant/don't do that, you know who you are! Way to go Son!

While you were out...

Caleb headed to VBS at our church today. This is what everyone else did while he was out...

Luke enjoyed a nap in his carseat, which seems to be his favorite spot to sleep.

Abby repeated to me again and again, "I want to go to Caleb's class momma. I want to go to Caleb's class." So I found a treat to make the morning special for her. What could be better than a donut with sprinkles? A PINK donut with sprinkles!

And me... I took a few moments to do one of my favorite things too... take pictures!

"I Cute" is what she said as Aunt Katie snapped her picture.

Yesterday we took Luke to an appointment for his foot at the Scottish Rites Hospital. It went really well, and that hospital is just amazing. I was very impressed with the doctor and other staff and left feeling affirmed in our decision to use Scottish Rites. Luke got a cast on his entire left leg and will go to be recasted every week for 6 weeks. At that point he will get a brace all of the time for 3 months and then at night for 3 years. While the doctor putting the cast on Luke, he got to listen to soothing music, suck on a sugar coated pacifier, and be soothed by several nurses rubbing his forehead. Jon and I both felt like the soft lighting in the room and the music were going to put us to sleep. The doctor did a great job, and Luke didn't cry at all. She assured us that this is just a foot problem and said Luke should hit all of his milestones at a normal time. She was so great to talk to and answered a lot of our questions.

Luke has seemed more upset today than normal, and I am assuming it is him getting used to the cast. He has been allowed to nurse a whole bunch! It seems to be the only way for me to sooth him, but it seems to do the trick.

I am trying to get a script going in my mind for when people ask about the cast... perhaps I will say that he broke his leg saving kittens from a fire...

Isn't the little bitty baby cast adorable on Luke?!

Luke at 2 Weeks Old

editIMG_0537-1
Luke is two weeks old today. He had his checkup with the pediatrician, and he is up to 8 pounds, 6 ounces. Maybe that isn't a big deal to most of our readers out there, but it is exciting to me! He has gained more than a pound since our last visit a little over a week ago. He is getting the whole nursing thing down and seems to be filling himself up often. Pretty much all of the time his stomach is rounded and full. Jon described it today as the way a puppy looks after eating way too much, which is a good way to put it in my opinion. It is great to see that Luke is growing and packing on the pounds!
