Kelly's Belly Week 18

Funny, my belly seems to come to a point. I noticed this when I was pregnant with Caleb, and kept hoping it would be more evenly rounded as I got bigger. It really stayed pointy the whole time. Oh well....

Our ultrasound is one week from today! We are going at 8:30 in the morning, as early as possible. I am so anxious to know if it is a boy or a girl. We are excited about finding out such a major detail about our child's identity. It shapes their entire life and a good deal of our experience in parenting. What a fun time this is!

Bay Area

Had a good weekend out in the land of fruits and nuts. Strangely my team fit in pretty well in California. We had a good time and decent results, although we still have yet to put everyones best race together on the same day. Nevertheless it is neat to provide the experience to a pretty hard working group of guys. If nothing else it was good to see the pacific.

Flotrack Coverage

Flotrack is a great site that is using the Internet to give some coverage to some oft forgotten sports. The founder ran track at UT and is pretty smart guy, with what seems to be a pretty good gig. I think they have a wrestling site, and a site for swimming as well. Just providing some great glimpses into what goes on across the country in some rarely publicized events. They usually fill in where the major networks leave off. The candid interviews he gets with the athletes are amazing. His work in Europe and Beijing this summer was pretty interesting.
Our girls are on pace to have a pretty great year. They are a little ahead of our men. In case you wondered, we were having practice at the same park, similar workout. We will get our turn, in time.

Baylor Invite 08

It was a busy weekend. So much so that I only got to mowing our grass tonight. I hosted a cross country meet. It was enough to put me on edge for the better part of a week. Between the mowing, t post driving, flag stringing, and entry fee wrangling my phone really didn't stop ringing. Meet director is one of the challenging parts of my job that you don't always think of when you think about what a coach does. It went well, I had over 900 kids entered, and the only complaint I heard was that we ran out of TP in the ports (oops).
Otherwise there were not too many complaints which I take as a compliment. I did have a good amount of help. Note that I said I had a good amount of help, not any amount of good help (see above). Michael was supposed to be taking down the flags. This picture just about sums up how much work you get out of student athletes on a weekend. Good times. www.bearrunxcc.com

Caleb 18 month old!

Caleb has made it to the 1 1/2 year point! He is at a very fun age now. Here are some of the things that he has been up to the last month:
-Caleb loves to play with chalk on the driveway. He draws some, but I think he mostly just enjoys walking around holding as much chalk in his hands as possible. When I tell him it is time to put the chalk away, he hides it behind his back and pretends that he isn't holding any.
-Caleb is starting to pretend. Yesterday, he wanted to stay in his crib after nap time to play while I sat on the floor nearby. He was pretending to hit his head on the crib. I would say "ouch" each time, and he was laughing hysterically.
-Caleb loves balls! He has five small balls, and often times he wants us to walk around the house and find all of them. We look under and behind all of the couches and beds. He gets really excited when we find one. Then he proceeds to carry all five around the house with him.
-Caleb likes to hide toys behind pillows, and then he puts his arms up and says "where did it go?" His words aren't very clear, but his intonation and hand motions make it obvious what he is saying.
-He is getting better and better at feeding himself. Usually if he makes a mess, it is because he is choosing to throw food on the floor to the dog. He gets in trouble for this quite often.
-Caleb goes into his crib for time out when he gets in trouble. Lately he has been getting in trouble for hitting me- any advice is welcome! We are working on this!
-Caleb gets excited when I tell him that we are going to play with his friends.
-He is starting to have a longer attention span for his toys. His favorites are his cars and balls. My coffee table is suffering quite a few scratches!
-He is learning to jump and loves to practice.

We are enjoying this sweet boy!

Pictures to come- he is at Mother's Day Out right now!

Road Trip, Background Check, and the Pace Face

Several friends and I took a short road trip down to Fort Hood today to visit our friend Tiffany and her two kids. Her family used to live in Waco, but they recently moved about 45 minutes away to Killeen to live on post. Caleb and Gianna got to ride next to each other in the car. They had a nice time on the way down, enjoyed some snacks, and played peek-a-boo with each other. When we got there we had to get a day pass to get on base. I had a background check done on me and everything! It was interesting to see how it all works and also interesting to see how big Fort Hood is. It is definitely like its own city with restaurants and shops and houses and everything. We had a nice lunch, hung out at Tiffany's house, and went to the park. On the way home, Caleb provided us with a nice amount of screaming (I'm sure Gege and G-pa know the kind I am talking about from our time sharing a car in Hawaii!). Finally, both babies went to sleep, and Caleb showed Emily the perfected version of the Pace Face!

Kelly's Belly Week 16

Well we did get a picture without our goofy son in it, but I figured that this one captured the moment well. Everything is going well as far as Capron #2 is concerned. I have started feeling him or her moving, which is exciting. Three weeks to go until our ultrasound!

Bumps and Bruises

The older Caleb gets, the more bruises and bumps he seems to have. He has three different bruises on his forehead that are all from different falls. He is starting to run and that must equal more dangerous situations. He also has a big bruise on his back from falling down on some blocks while in the tub. Despite the bruises doesn't he look cute in his dinosaur pjs?

Mouse Saga Cont.

Indoor Mouse Trap #1: Still loaded up with peanut butter and set
Indoor Mouse Trap #2: Still loaded up with peanut butter and set
Garage Mouse Trap #1: Peanut butter is all gone, no mouse to be found
Garage Mouse Trap #2: Peanut butter is all gone, no mouse to be found

I think that the steel wool that Jon stuffed in the holes in the cabinets may be keeping the mice out of the kitchen. We may just try the Sievert suggestion of hot gluing dog food on the traps that are in the garage. I think I will start to put my kitchen back together today...

Good Sign or Bad Sign

Is it a good sign or a bad sign that all of our four peanut butter mouse traps are still empty?

Our Not So Restful Weekend

This weekend was not a restful one, and it seems like Jon and I spent a lot of time completing jobs that ended up being pointless in the end or ones that could have been avoided. First on Friday night, some of our friends gave us one of their old bed frames. We had been needing a new frame for our guest bedroom bed because the one we have is from Jon's grandparents' old house and must be at least 40 years old. It tends to lean one direction and isn't high enough for storing much of anything underneath it. Since storage is going to become more of an issue for us in March of next year, we gladly accepted the frame assuming that it would be adjustable. Jon, being ambitious, decided to put the new frame on right away at 7:00 on Friday night. First he took the old frame old off, which was time consuming because of the weird collection of screws and such that were being used to connect this antiquated frame in the first place. Then he attached the top of the new frame to the bedpost. Then after some discussion and confusion we began to realize that this frame would not work on a full bed. The connecting pieces didn't have holes in the right places. At this point, Jon decided that Caleb and I were not as much help as we thought we were. Caleb already had a nice bruise on his bottom from falling on one of the bed frames, so we spent a few minutes playing with him and putting him to bed. Then I suggested taking off the frame on our queen size bed, putting it on the full guestroom bed and moving the new frame to our room. We both looked at our frame and decided that it was indeed adjustable. Jon took off our frame and then discovered that it really would not work on a full bed. At this point, it was 9:00 (our bedtime), and we had two very messy rooms and no beds to sleep in. So I went to the garage to retrieve the grandma bedframe that we were ready to throw out. Jon put it back on the full bed and returned our own bed frame to its original spot. I remade the two beds. So in more two hours time, we accomplished absolutely nothing. We went to sleep extremely frustrated.
Jon spent Saturday at practice and with a recruit and his parents. After church, Sunday was a day of more recruiting. On Sunday night, we attended our home group and got home around 8:00 ready to relax a little bit. Caleb was wanting to eat his dinner that he didn't eat at church. I got him started and opened our silverware drawer to get out a spoon for him. Then I noticed a bunch of little black droppings in and around our silverware. After more inspection, Jon and I decided it was definitely poop. We were hoping it was from a gecko and not a rodent. We began inspecting other drawers and the cabinets nearby and kept finding more and more of these nice droppings. So Caleb is eating his Chex cereal for dinner and Jon and I are pulling out the entire contents of cabinets to find more and more poop covering all of our utensils and linens and other random things that I have stuffed into the cabinets. We also noticed a great deal of chewed up paper, so we knew that the culprit is definitely some type of rodent. It was a major mess. Take out a tablecloth. Shake the poop off and move onto the next item. After awhile, we simply couldn't occupy Caleb with food at the table anymore, so we got him down and put him to bed. Then Jon and I spent the next hour cleaning up the nice mess and trying to find a place to put all of our kitchen stuff until we can come up with a plan to keep the mouse and its friends out of our house! I loaded a ton of utensils in the dishwasher and vacuumed out cabinets and cleaned the floor. During this process, Jon broke one of our vases, and we put the contents in our kitchen trash bag. Later I walked by it, and a piece of glass cut my leg. I got myself bandaged up and continued cleaning. Our countertops are covered with drawers and other things for now. Luckily, we don't think that the mouse found our pantry full of food. Hopefully it will look for a new home far from here. I will be buying some traps today. What a weekend! When Jon was home, he didn't have a moment to relax at all. We are glad to put that one behind us!

Sunday Morning Dance Party

Caleb enjoyed a nice dance party this morning. Notice the one croc on his foot. He put it on the wrong foot all by himself and is currently walking around the house like this. He is definitely a morning person (after he has had his "mi, mi, mi, mi" (to be read with short i sound- milk)!

Capron Collection

Check out my new photo card project. I have been working on these on and off for awhile now, and I figure I might as well go for it. My prices are very affordable compared to other online photo card companies. I hope to be designing more cards to add to the site soon.

Second Trimester

Yah, for officially being in the second trimester. I have been feeling really good. I went to the doctor today, heard the baby's heartbeat (always so reassuring), and got to schedule our ultrasound. It is in 5 weeks. I think it is funny that the poll on the right says exactly 35 days left to vote! When Jon set it up, he just picked a number as we weren't sure when we would be able to find out. It could have been anywhere between 18 and 22 weeks- sounds like a fourth grade math problem. Texas fourth grade teachers know the ones I am talking about! Okay, there I go rambling again. I just wanted to give the pregnancy update and to say that things are going well! :) Also if you haven't voted on our poll (probably you google reader people), go ahead and vote!
