Isn't Luke cute first thing in the morning? This little man is going to be busy. He has 3 doctor's appointments in the next 2 weeks. One is just with his pediatrician for his 2 week checkup. The other two are with orthopedic specialists- one in Dallas and one in Temple. We are planning on meeting with both doctors and then deciding where we will do the treatment for his foot. He had several x-rays done this past week, and they showed that his foot is consistent with clubfoot. So we are entering a new phase of our lives that will likely involve lots of doctors' appointments. The first step will likely be a series of casts on Luke's foot (and all the way up his leg). We appreciate your prayers for clarity and peace during this process. I want to be knowledgeable and know what questions we need to ask. We also need wisdom in choosing where we will go for his treatment. I will continue to update the blog as we learn more.

Luke is a sweetie. He has two precious dimples, beautiful skin, and a good amount of light brown hair. He seems to be adjusting well to life. We are trying hard to make him a good nurser, but it is a struggle! I know that this will be easier and easier, but please pray for Luke to be able to latch on better. We went to the doctor yesterday, and his weight was down a good amount. The doctor wants us to return again tomorrow for another weight check, so I am hoping that he has gained some serious weight!
Our other prayer request is for Luke's sweet little foot. We noticed immediately when he was born that it is turned in a bit. Our pediatrician is making a referral for us to an orthopedic specialist. This could be something that will require castings and/or surgery and braces in the near future. So it is definitely weighing heavy on our hearts. Please pray for us to be able to get an appointment with the specialist quickly and for wisdom about what questions we need to be asking. Indications are that this more than likely a correctable condition, but we don't know all the specifics yet. Pray for peace of mind as we wait too. Luke is so sweet and made perfectly by the Lord. God knows all about him and all about what challenges we may face in the future. For now, we are cherishing these sweet newborn days with our son.
Luke's Birth Story
Here are Jon and me on delivery day. At this point, I had been waiting for 5 weeks for Luke to make his arrival. I had been 4 centimeters dilated for 5 weeks and was very swollen and very ready to meet our boy. You can definitely tell about the swelling from this picture! My dad took this picture at about 6:45 in the morning, and then we headed out to the hospital. We got there at 7 and started getting all hooked up. The nurse started my iv and got the pitocin going. The monitors were showing that I was having contractions, but I was hardly feeling them and not in any pain. At around 8:00, my doctor came in and broke my water. It was a busy day at the hospital, so I asked them to put me on the list for the epidural. I knew it would probably go quickly, and I didn't want to miss out on the meds! By 9:45, the anesthesiologist had me all set up, and I was definitely starting to feel the contractions more and more. They told me it would take about 20 minutes for the medicine to start working. Twenty minutes later, I was numb on one side and having a LOT of pain on the other side. Jon called in my nurse. She decided to check me because of how I was feeling, and I was completely ready to push. My doctor just happened to come to check on me then, and I got to start pushing (without the full effect of the epidural!) This one hurt bad! But, it was a quick process and Luke was born at 10:30 AM. What a blessing it is to have such a quick and easy labor! Here are some of the after pictures!

Our THREE!
These three are getting along great. I know that we have only been home for a day, but it is so sweet to see how Caleb and Abby have responded to Luke being here. Abby is especially excited and enthusiastic about helping with Luke. She calls him "my baby" and comes to tell me when he is crying. She wants to bring him blankets and hats and baby dolls. She told Granddaddy that she is not a baby, but she is the big sister. Caleb told me last night, "Mom, thank you for asking God to give us a baby." When Abby was born he wanted absolutely nothing to do with her. It is so fun to see him happy and interested in a brother now that he is older. I am sure that we will have lots of conflict among these three in the future, but it is a wonderful feeling to see them showing love and interest in each other now. They are each such a unique blessing to our family.

We're at the hospital . . .
We'll keep you posted, as best we can. See the twitter feed on the right side of the screen for the most up to date information, as well as good ol' facebook. Can't wait to meet my son.

Luke's Birthday- it's coming!
Unless he comes on his own sooner, little Luke will be born this Wednesday! How funny that after he was almost really early, we will be inducing. It is a real blessing that he is completely full term. I have been pregnant with him longer than either of the other two, so we are thinking he will be the biggest baby of our bunch. I am pretty sure he will come quickly, and therefore I will be asking for the epidural first thing! That is just 4 days from now. I am so ready and super excited!

My mom is gone from this earth, but she will always be a part of me. I know that she is such a part of who I am as a mom. She would probably be calling me several times a day these past weeks to ask about Luke and this pregnancy. She would be all set to head this way at the first sign of me being in labor. But, I know that God's will was accomplished and perfected in her life. Part of His will was surely to draw other members of our family closer together. In a months time, we will likely have had most (if not all) of our immediate family here to visit and to help with the kids. What a blessing. I miss Mom so much, but I am so thankful for the friends and family who have and will come along side us at the birth of Luke to celebrate and to help with Caleb and Abby.
Being a mom is such a privilege and challenge. I pray for strength to be a godly mom to my kids just as my mom was for us, and I look forward to getting to see my mom again in Heaven.

Abby's Hair
I gave Abby a little haircut yesterday and decided to put rollers in her hair just for fun. She loved having them in and was very upset at me when I took them out! I can't say from the way her hair turned out that I will be doing it again anytime soon!

Getting Ready...
My wonderful husband painted the dresser from Caleb and Luke's room this weekend, and it looks great. I love how it turned out. I still have a few more projects in the boys' room, but here is a picture of the new dresser...
Here is a picture of Luke's coming home outfit. It looks so small! I have enjoyed going through all of the baby clothes and remembering using them for Caleb. I am excited to have an itty bitty one in the house again.
