More Hawaii Pics

We spent one of our days in Hawaii at Pu'uhonau o Honaunau, which is a state park. We walked through the park and then went to a nearby beach for some "A" rated snorkeling. Each couple took turns snorkeling while the others watched the kids play on the beach. It was really good snorkeling. I saw a sea turtle and some amazing fish. The place where Jon and I got in was very rocky and full of sea anemones. Jumping in from the lava rock was one thing. Getting out with the water pushing you against the rock was another, and Jon suggested I swim to the beach to get out. It sounded simple enough, and I started my swim. I kept swimming in the general direction of the beach, but I couldn't exactly tell where it had gone since all of the rocky shoreline was blocking my view. After swimming, stopping to look, swimming, and stopping to look, Jon (who had climbed out on the rock) came to find me. From the lava rock, he told me which way to swim, and I continued. Then I started realizing the coral and fish and sea anemones were getting closer and closer to me as the water was getting more and more shallow. Suddenly I was trying to swim over a bunch of prickly possibly stinging sea anemones and other fish in only calf deep water. I had no to way to swim to the beach, no shoes to wear to walk across the coral, and I was feeling very stressed out. I stopped, and Jon threw me my flipflops. I was able to carefully walk to some lava rock and get out. I never made it to the sandy beach. I should have just braved the lava rock way out from the start before a thirty minute swim to the beach, which ended up being unreachable. However, I did see the best sea life during my attempts to get out! Somehow everyone else in the family did better getting in and out, but all of us had some cuts and scrapes from this snorkeling experience. Unfortunatetly, we didn't see any dolphins here like Jon and I did 6 years ago on our honeymoon, but it was definitely a good place to snorkel.
Here are some pictures of the kids swimming at the beach.

Hawaii Pics #1

We spent a lot of time at the beach and at the pool in Hawaii. That equaled lots of time putting on sunscreen and lots of snacks. You can see from these pictures that the boys certainly didn't let sand get in the way of their snacking!

Caleb and Owen enjoy some goldfish.

I'm a boy, mom. I don't worry about a little sand with my snack. I like to eat dirt.

It sure was a lot of work getting up, eating breakfast, and putting on sunscreen before heading to the beach at 9:00am. Caleb decided he was ready for a nap!Jon's brother, Eric, and Caleb's cousin, Owen, relax on the beach chairs.

Injuries...

We are back from Hawaii and had a nice trip. I will post some pictures when I have a bit more time. Here is a picture of Caleb that we took before we left. He had been playing in front of my closet mirror, and it fell out of the brackets to the floor and then fell forward right on his face. The corner scratched his forehead, cheek, and chest. Thank goodness his eye was fine! I have a feeling that this won't be the only Caleb post labeled "Injuries". However, it is amazing how fast babies' skin heals. His face was back to normal in 2 days time.

Caleb is anticipating the King of the Mountain stages of the Tour de France, which we seem to have 3 hours of on our Tivo every night.

Who is this a picture of?

Tubtime!

Caleb's new favorite thing to do in the tub is to lay on his stomach and "blow bubbles". He can actually blow some bubbles, but he sure does swallow a lot of water in the process! Doesn't he look like such a big boy in this picture?

Lake Weekend with The Durands

We spent the Fourth of July with our friends, the Durands, at their lakehouse on Possum Kingdom lake. We had a fabulous time hanging out with friends and family and enjoying boat rides and swimming.Jon and Caleb paused for a quick picture on the patio before walking down to the boat for our morning trip to the "sandy beach", where the kids (2 one year olds and 2 three year olds) played in the sand and swam.

I just put this picture in to give you a picture of how Caleb felt about his life vest. It definitely was not his favorite part of the experience! Between the sunscreen in his eyes and the life vest trauma, he had a major meltdown during our first boat ride. Jon got sunscreen in his eyes too and had his own minor meltdown. Time for me to look for a different kind of sunscreen!

This is a picture of Caleb and Jackson sitting on the back of the boat while we were at the beach. They had a great time "jumping" off of the back of the boats to their parents. They would just sit there and lean forward until they fell into our hands. In the picture they are both very interested in a passing boat.

Finally here is a picture of Jon and Caleb playing in the water. Caleb loved swimming in the lake. For some reason, he wanted nothing to do with me while in the water. He only wanted his daddy. Jon would try to take a break and hand him off to me, and Caleb would start crying and reaching back towards Jon. This is a reversal of the norm, and I think Jon enjoyed the special bonding time with his boy. When Caleb was younger (funny to be saying that..), he would say "mamamamama" when he wanted to eat and "dadada" while he was playing. So Caleb pretty much wants me when he is hungry and Jon when he is ready for an adventure. I guess that is about right!

Thanks, Durands for a fun weekend!

Trouble

Looks like a lot of trouble! Caleb "experienced" the sprinklers last night, and then Jon styled his hair. It still looked somewhat like this when he woke up this morning.

The Answer is...

The Biggest Catterpillar we have ever seen was hanging out on one of our front bushes this morning. I guess he was eating his way up the bush, which isn't great news. But, he was very interesting to look at. That is a comparison between Jon's big hand and the catterpillar. Wow!

My Little Brother's Wedding

Here are some of the pictures from Michael and Tiffany's wedding. We had a great time celebrating with them a week ago today in Albuquerque. The wedding was beautiful, and Tiffany looked gorgeous. Caleb had a grand time dancing on the dance floor like a crazy man! My brother Mike and sister's husband, Jason, also danced like crazy men too! We all enjoyed ourselves and wish Mike and Tiffany a happy marriage!

Where's Waldo?

Notice anything interesting here? Well Waldo isn't in this picture, but there is something enormous and interesting. Click on the picture to make it larger and look for it. Post a comment if you think you can see it. We will post the answer and a close up picture later on today.

A Quick Picture Grid

Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted since June 6th! This boy is keeping me busy. Also I taught VBS at my church last week, so those are my excuses. Here are a few shots I took of Caleb playing on our office chair tonight. He felt very important sitting there!

Maybe it is time to invest in some real blocks. Then again, these are in the perfect location to entertain Caleb while I am cooking.

Happy birthday to Jon's sister, Mara, who lives in Greece! We so wish we could be there to celebrate with you! We hope that you are having (or with the time change I guess it would be had) a great birthday! We love you!
